OUR PURPOSE

The Verita Foundation is a non-profit organization that was founded out of the belief that education can significantly contribute to improving the quality of life of children from disadvantaged backgrounds.

Using our experience in education, knowledge about the harmonious development of children and the science behind the learning process, we aim to develop training programs for educators and teachers from state schools in Romania.

Our goal is to inspire and support the educational communities that support the learning process in rural state schools. We contribute through our projects to a greater awareness of the stressors in this field but also to the existence of individual, group or system tools that allow the creation of a space of physical, mental and emotional safety for both educators and students.

MISSION

Using our science based knowledge in education, our love for learning and our trust that kindness connects hearts and hands, we wish to inspire and ignite meaningful change in the lives of underprivileged children and their families by providing educators in the state system, the resources needed to develop the academic and social emotional learning skills for students and themselves.

VISION

Inspiring communities and the private sector to use education as a catalyst to empower children and help them thrive in spite of their social background. Creating opportunities of contribution and sustainable partnerships that understand the responsibility and the urgency of a different model of education in the world.

THE PROBLEM

STRESS AND PHYSICAL IMPACT ON SCHOOL TEACHERS

In Romania, every year, more than 500 teachers abandon their teaching positions due to stress, behavioral, psychological or physical symptoms due to their work The percentage is far higher in rural areas than in urban areas.

IMPACT OF POVERTY ON
UNDERPRIVILEGED CHILDREN

Many underprivileged rural and state school children who live with abuse and neglect in homes with extreme poverty, time spent with teachers represents the only time they can thrive in a safe and nourishing environment.

LACK OF SOCIAL EMOTIONAL EDUCATION

Lack of social emotional awareness inhibits teachers and students ability to form human connections, develop resilience, navigate stress and successfully face the challenges necessary to achieve academic education and excellence.

THE SOLUTION

We wholeheartedly believe in positively impacting the quality of education in public schools by empowering
and giving sustainable support to those who are closely associated with the education ecosystem.

Incorporating teacher well-being training and skills, community programs and workshops introducing
mindfulness and social emotional awareness and funding events, retreats and education for disadvantaged and underserved children are ways that Verita Foundation can have its most effective impact.

Nourishing the Personal – Community – System synergy for educating the heart and mind.

Nipun Mehta is the founder of ServiceSpace.org - an incubator of projects that support a gift culture. In his mid-twenties, Nipun quit his job to become a "full time volunteer" and over the last 15 years, his work has reached millions, attracted more than 500 thousand volunteers, and mushroomed into numerous projects like DailyGood, Awakin Circles, and Karma Kitchen. Among his many prestigious accolades, President Obama appointed him on a council for social change, Dalai Lama recognized him as an “Unsung Hero of Compassion”, and Germany’s OOOM magazine named him Top 100 Most Inspiring People of 2018.

Why compassion in education?

Educational systems around the world are increasingly becoming outdated. The traditional “ download” of education not only leaves many children bored and uninterested, its overemphasis on tests and grades rewards passive memorization over innovation and creativity, and leaves fresh graduates completely unprepared for the modern workplace. Moreover, children are more plugged into devices and more disconnected than ever before, as bullying rates continue to sky rocket.

Many innovators are now suggesting a shift from content to relationship. In the world of Google, content is cheap, automated and freely available. Everything humans can do with content, machines can do better. Amid such a backdrop, a growing body of research suggests that the most valuable commodities for the future are teamwork, collaboration and empathy.
